Chip graduated from Ward Melville High School in 1986 as a High School All-American. He played lacrosse at UNC, earning All-American and All-ACC honors before graduating in 1990. He then served as a UNC assistant coach, helping win the 1991 NCAA title. In 1998, he joined Brine Inc. in sales, later becoming Southeast Regional Sales Manager for Warrior and Brine.
